By participating in intercollegiate athletics, a student assumes certain risks and responsibilities in addition to those assumed by the institution. These include an obligation to safe conduct during practice and competition and a strict adherence to the rules of the sport that are designed to safeguard the well-being of the participants.
Each student-athlete also has an obligation to inform the athletic training staff and team physicians of any medical problems encountered on or off the field of play.
Failure to inform athletic training staff of injuries and/or medical problems can result in the student-athlete taking full financial responsibility for any bills incurred.
OPSU, Athletic Training Department, Athletic Department, and its staff cannot be held accountable for medical bills assessed to the student-athlete that become delinquent. This is the student-athlete's responsibility. Any request for a second opinion must be verified and approved through the Head Athletic Trainer and the Athletic Department insurance prior to the physician visit. Any student-athlete who bypasses the Athletic Department Policies on physician treatment will be held completely responsible for any bills incurred due to injury. |
