OPSU Volleyball
Signings as of 7/12/06:
(Hometown, Last School Attended)
Sarah Moran - Libero
(Platteville, CO – Lamar CC) Sarah comes in to take
over the libero position for the OPSU Volleyball program.
She is a very consistent passer and defender and has a
great instinct for the game. While at Lamar CC, Sarah was
a team captain for two years leading while setting numerous
school records in the 2005 season. Some of the records
Sarah holds include 518 total digs, a 4.28 dig/game average,
and a 29 dig performance. She tallied 20 or more digs five
times in 2005 and garnered an All-Region IX South selection. “With
Sarah’s ability to pass and defend, she will be a
major part in why OPSU Volleyball will be successful in
2006.” said head coach Eric Viney.
Catherine “Cat” Clay – Outside
Hitter/Middle Hitter (Deming, NM – Deming HS) A two-time
New Mexico 4A Player of the Year, Cat is the type of athlete
that every volleyball program in the nation is looking
for. “We can’t say enough about how excited
we are to have Cat as a part of this program," said
Viney. "Cat is the ideal athlete that every coach
wants to have involved with their program. She is extremely
athletic, skilled, and court savvy. Needless to say, the
expectations we have for Cat during her career here are
limitless. Everyone needs to keep an eye out for this athlete.” Cat
will also be joining the OPSU Women’s Basketball
program, where she is also expected to have a good career.
Cheryl Coldwell – Setter
(Norman, OK – Norman HS) Cheryl comes to OPSU to
help fill the vacant setting position for the Lady Aggies. “Cheryl
is an extremely quick and athletic kid with a great deal
of potential. I have seen Cheryl play a number of times,
and after each time I watch her play, it just solidifies
my very positive opinions about her. We are looking for
Cheryl to step in right away and compete for the starting
setter position.” said Viney.
Carli Whittler – Setter
(Guymon, OK – Guymon HS) An All-Region and All-State
selection, Carli adds depth to the setting position for
the 2006 season. Carli has a true competitive nature that
is unmatched by a lot of athletes. “Her competitiveness
will help her get onto the court next year and help her
learn how to handle a complex college-level offense. I
am impressed with Carli’s work ethic and passion
for wanting to be the best. We need that kind of desire
in our volleyball program.” said Viney. Carli is
one of two Guymon High School players to join the OPSU
Volleyball program as Caryn Scofield is expected to walk-on
to the team. Alisa Byers, a 2004 Guymon graduate, is already
with the Lady Aggies program.
Amber McKinney – Middle
Hitter (San Antonio, TX – Hill Junior College) Amber
is another strong physical player joining the Aggie team.
An All-Conference and All-Region performer at Hill Junior
College, she adds another big swing and great leadership
qualities. “Amber is the big swinging, terminating
presence that we have been looking for to add to our program
for next season. She has a ton of experience in big game
situations and she knows how to carry a team to victory.
Her competitiveness and will to win will help this team achieve
many of its goals this fall,” says Head Coach Eric
Viney. |
