Golfers Play in First Fall Tournaments —By Laura Nelson on 09/13/2012 The Aggie golf teams started their seasons this past week with the men competing in the Peaks Classic in La Veta, Colo. while the women headed south to Amarillo to play in the Lady Buff Stampede hosted by West Texas A&M University.
The men played three rounds Sept. 9-11 on the par-72, 7,085-yard Grandote Peaks golf course. OPSU's Trent Combs finished 26th out of 54 golfers, coming in six over in round one, even in round two, and nine over in round three. Teammates Tyler Harper, Reagan Karlin, and Taylor Campbell also competed.
The par-72, 5,925-yard Tascosa Country Club course proved tough for the women's team as Kolbi Graves finished the two rounds with a total of 225 strokes and Carmela Garcia turned in 235 strokes over 36 holes. Chelsea Montano and Haupe Henderson completed the 4-person team.
The men take a week off before heading to Duncan, Okla. Sept. 22-25 for the meet hosted by Cameron University at the Territory golf course. The women play in their second tournament Oct. 7-9 as they travel to Hutchinson, Kan. to compete in the Warrior Invitational hosted by Sterling College.
