Aggie Volleyball Concludes Texas Road Trip—By Daulton Perry on 09/23/2012 Following their three set sweep of the Sul Ross Lions in Alpine, Texas on Wednesday, the Oklahoma Panhandle State University volleyball team continued their Texas road trip and headed north to Odessa to take on the Falcons of the University of Texas of the Permian Basin on Thursday night, and then traveled to Abilene to battle the War Hawks from McMurry University on Saturday.
In Odessa, the Aggies faced a struggling UTPB team that had a record of 3-7 and the Aggies wanted to keep their momentum from the Wednesday night win. OPSU fell short in the first set 25-15 and their struggles continued into set two as UTPB won 25-17. They played a better set three, but still fell 25-20. OPSU lost 0-3 and their record fell to 3-9 on the season. Sarah Koster led the Aggies with seven kills while Kayla Schwartz had 13 assists and Alex Schmitt had 16 digs.
Next up on the road trip for the Aggies was a tough 6-3 McMurry War Hawks team and OPSU looked out of sync through the entire match. McMurry controlled every set, winning 25-14, 25-7, and 25- 17. For the Aggies, Michaela Redding had six kills, Terra Madden had seven assists, and Erica Skipper led with eight digs. The record for the Aggies now falls to 3-10 on the young season, but they have plenty of games left to turn things around.
The next game for OPSU is this Thursday, Sept. 27 at home against conference opponent St. Mary's at 7:00 p.m.
