Volleyball Falls to St. Edward's —By Daulton Perry on 11/04/2012 Goodwell, Okla.—With the season dwindling down and only two home games left, the Aggies knew that they needed to end the season on a positive note and what better way to do that than with some home wins. However, the very strong St. Edward's team was coming to town and their record going into the match was 15-8, so the Aggies knew they had their hands full Saturday afternoon.
In the first set, OPSU was able to keep pace with the Hilltoppers through most of the set, but St. Edward's ultimately took set one with a 25-17 win. Any spark that the Aggies needed to fight back was nowhere to be found after set one as the visitors owned the court for the next two sets, winning 25-7 and 25-8. With the loss, OPSU drops to 4-25 on the season and have only two games left on their schedule. Erica Skipper led the Aggies with 5 kills, Kayla Schwartz led with 6 assists, and Skipper and Schwartz tied with 8 digs each. The Aggies struggled with kills as they posted a -.113 kill percentage for the whole match. Errors are hard to overcome, especially when the opponent is a team like St. Edward's that feeds off the errors and turns them into positive plays.
OPSU heads to Bethany, Okla. on Tuesday for two games, one against Southwestern Christian at 3 p.m. and another against Oklahoma Wesleyan at 5 p.m. The Aggies then head back home to finish off their season against Northwestern Oklahoma State University next Thursday.
