Aggie Basketball Season is Underway —By Daulton Perry on 11/11/2012 Goodwell, Okla.—The OPSU men's basketball team was ready to get their season started and after a blowout win at home on Wednesday night against the New Mexico All-Stars, the fans were ready as well. That game, however, was just an exhibition, so this game on Saturday night was the real deal with Barclay College coming to town.
The Aggies got the opening tip off and a couple seconds later, Damar Hill sent an alley-oop up for Tavien Rosemond who slammed it down with authority and that got the fans in it right away. From then on out, the Aggies kept the momentum and would never let it up. The Aggie defense played the Barclay Bears tough all night and caused them to turn the ball over more than 40 times in the ball game. Most of these turnovers led to fast break points by OPSU. The Aggies were on fire from the behind the three-point line and it seemed as if every Aggie hit one during the game. At the end of the game, there were seven different Aggies with double digit points and the Bears had no answer for the Aggie offensive attack. OPSU was victorious in their first regular season game winning big, 143-63. Michael Patterson led all scorers with 27 points followed closely by Krys Randolph with 26 points as he hit eight three-pointers. Bill Lee had 16 points followed by T. J. Farrell with 15 and the Carlos Tapia-Ponce with 14 and then Trestin Clay with 13 and finally rounding out the double digits scorers was Brandon Caruthers with 12. What really helped the Aggies was their three-point shooting as they went 21-42 from beyond the arc.
The Aggies head to Fairbanks, Alaska next week to play in a tournament where they have three games in three days. Their next home game is on November 24 against Western State.
