Aggies Take on Nanooks —By Laura Nelson on 11/17/2012 Fairbanks, Alaska—The OPSU men's basketball team took on the Alaska Invitational's host team Friday night, the Alaska Nanooks, a name derived from the Inuit word for polar bear.
In an exciting first half, Bill Lee got the Aggies on the scoreboard first with a two-point jump shot that the Nanooks answered with a three. The lead see-sawed back and forth as the teams tied six different times in the first 20 minutes of play, but Alaska was in the lead 33-26 at the half. OPSU got within four points of the lead early in half two, but with eight minutes remaining to play, Alaska was ahead by 26 and the Aggies could not overcome the deficit.
For OPSU, Lee led the scoring with 15 with Damar Hill adding 11 and Brandon Caruthers with 10. Caruthers also pulled down five rebounds and three assists. With the loss, the men's record falls to 1-2.
The Aggies play their final game in the tournament Saturday against the Cal State-Monterey Bay Otters at 6 p.m. CST. Fans can follow the action live at www.alaskananooks.com. Use the men's basketball link and then the Alaska Invitational link for live stats, video, and radio.
