Public Invited to Book Fair

By Clayton Reed, SOEA on 01/24/2013 Goodwell, Okla.—The members of the Student Oklahoma Education Association (SOEA) of OPSU invite students, parents, and young readers to its annual Scholastic book fair!

Find those special books for the very young all the way up to the young adult readers in your family. Our selection has expanded this year and we expect to offer the best book fair to date. The fair opens at 9:30 a.m. and remains open until 5:00 p.m., January 28-January 31 and February 1 from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the hallway near the Aggie Grille inside the Student Union Building.

Each year, the SOEA donates proceeds from over 40 percent of the sales during the book fair to a selected local school based upon a vote by organization members. The school then uses these funds to purchase books for the library to replace old, lost, stolen, or damaged selections. A variety of causes influences school selection, ranging from a fire-damaged library to budget cuts. Previous recipient schools include Optima, Straight, Cactus, Keyes, and Goodwell. This year SOEA selected Hooker Elementary to receive funds from the book fair.

The SOEA is a pre-professional organization comprised of students working toward careers as future educators. Our Mission Statement is: As future professional educators we seek to serve the community and to provide professional development and quality education experiences while fostering professionalism among our organization.

Jerry Mihelic and Jana Peterson serve as advisors for the OPSU branch of SOEA.
