**For Immediate Release** Baseball Finishes 1-3 in Final Series By Laura Nelson on 05/05/2013 Odessa, Texas—The Oklahoma Panhandle State University baseball team completed their season Friday and Saturday with a 4-game series against the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.

The 7-inning first game took extra innings to decide as neither team scored through the first four innings of play and then were tied at 2 after six. In the fifth, Alfonso Gonzalez doubled to bat in Nick Crosswhite and Ruben Aguirre for a 2-0 Aggie lead. The Falcons tied it up in the sixth, and neither pitcher gave up a hit in the next two innings. Jordan Bernal singled in the ninth, but was left stranded at second. UTBP scored a single run in the ninth to take the 3-2 win. Corey Mingin threw a complete game for the Aggies, scattering eight hits and striking out six.

Pitchers faced off in game two as neither team allowed a runner to cross home through seven complete innings. UTPB scored a single run in the eighth for the 1-0 win. Alan Scott tossed a complete game and fanned six hits and struck out four while Falcon Jacob Ricossa gave up only two hits and struck out seven. First baseman Crosswhite had 11 putouts.

Both teams got their bats going in the first game on Saturday. The Falcons took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and added four more runs to get ahead 6-0 after four complete innings. The Aggies finally got things going when Crosswhite smacked a lead-off triple in the fifth and was sent safely home on a Robert Montoya single. Montoya stole second base and then Chris McClendon doubled and batted him in. UTPB increased their lead to 7-2 in their at-bat in the fifth, but OPSU scored another run when Crosswhite sent third base runner Jordan Bernal home. In the sixth, Crosswhite hit a sacrifice fly to get Bernal home and then the Aggies plated four more runs in seventh to tie it at 7-all. Bo Ybarra started off the scoring run with a single followed by a McClendon double. Ybarra scored on an error and McClendon scored on a Bernal sacrifice fly. Casey Kettler and Ruben Aguirre both singled and Gonzalez singled to score Kettler. Crosswhite once again singled to get Aguirre home.

Again, it took extra innings to get a decision, and in the 11th, Kettler reached on an error and advanced to second. Aguirre bunted and made it to first, advancing Kettler to third. Gonzalez singled to score Kettler while Gonzalez advanced to second and Aguirre to third on a passed ball. Crosswhite took a base on balls and Montoya walked home for the final run of the game, clinching a 9-7 Aggie victory. Pitcher Joshua Land picked up the win, allowing only one hit in four innings of work and Adam Burke was credited with a save. Gonzalez, Crosswhite, and Montoya each had two RBIs.

OPSU scored first in the second inning of the final game as Aguirre singled and then scored when Gonzalez doubled. The Falcons answered in the third with two runs and then scored two more for the 4-1 win. Nick Chavez started on the mound for the Aggies, scattering four hits and striking out three in four innings of work, and he was given the loss.

The Aggies finish their season 3-46, but a number of freshmen saw plenty of playing this year and will return with that experience for the 2014 campaign.
