Richter Wins Award From information provided by Sara Richter on 05/16/2013 Goodwell, Okla.—Oklahoma Panhandle State University's Dr. Sara Jane Richter will be honored at the Oklahoma State Historic Preservation Office Conference in June for her research and work on the Hay Meadow Massacre.
The deadly Hay Meadow Massacre shootout occurred in No Man's Land in 1887 between rival political parties in Stevens County, Kansas. Richter, dressed in a costume depicting the period, delivered a presentation about the Massacre during Guymon's This Place Matters event in the spring of 2012. She was nominated by Melyn Johnson, Director of Main Street Guymon.
Richter, the Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Professor of English, will receive the 2013 Citation of Merit, an award that recognizes Oklahomans who preserve the State's heritage. She will travel to Perry, Okla. in June to receive the award at the Oklahoma State Historic Preservation Office Conference.
