Women's Basketball Begins at Home By Justine Gaskamp on 11/06/2013 Goodwell, Okla.—The Oscar Williams Field House will be rocking this weekend with the start of Aggie Basketball!
The OPSU women's team will start their 2013 season with a home game against Cameron University on Saturday, Nov. 9. The Aggies have played strong in their pre-season scrimmages and look to carry that energy into the regular season.
Returning seniors Sarah Johnson (point guard), Meagan Bell (guard/forward), Morgan Rickwartz (guard), Kortney Williams (center), and Sharice Papaleo (center) bring strong leadership to the team; and junior transfers Lacey Houston of North Platte Community College and Hannah Tatum of Southeast Community College will help add experience on the court. Also returning from last year is junior guard/forward Rosa Quinonez and sophomore guards Brittany Alavinejad and Haley Bonilla. Haley's sister Elida Bonilla joins the team this year along with newcomers Courtney Sheets of Texhoma, Sarah Pipkin of Sunray, Texas, Tyenne Mercer of Booker, Texas, and Jaclyn Becker of Edmond, Okla.
Coaching the Aggie women is Head Coach Charles Terry, Assistant Coach Matt Creamer, Assistants Whitley Coca, Kori Hamm, and DaVeonna Munson. The coaches are excited about getting started and putting things all together. Coach Terry said that "with the experience we have on the team, we've got an opportunity to get better; we've got a great group of young ladies with good leadership. We're going to take this season one game at a time."
Saturday's game begins at 2 p.m. and is sponsored by the Super 8 Motel of Guymon. Come out and help the Aggies start their season off right!
