Aggies Take the Field for Final Game of 2013 By Justine Gaskamp on 11/07/2013 Goodwell, Okla.—Football season is coming to a close for the Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggies (3-7) as they travel to Shawnee, Okla. this week to play their final game of 2013 against the Oklahoma Baptist University Bison (2-7).
As Coach Gaskamp referenced last week, the Aggies' record does not reflect their capabilities or talent; this team has fought hard throughout the year and plans to finish their season strong. Quarterback Caleb Holbrook has accumulated over 2,000 yards passing so far this year averaging over 200 yards per game. His targets this week will be wide receivers Andrew Hernandez and Rickey Backstrom along with tight end Spencer Grijalva, each has been good for over 30 yards receiving per game. Chris McClendon has dominated on the ground bringing in 816 yards rushing thus far; McClendon and running back Kameron Young have each earned six TDs this season.
Defensively the Aggies have totaled 766 tackles, 21 sacks, and 8 interceptions in the last ten games. Linebackers Andrew Dougherty leads the team in tackles with 67, while Allen Maxime leads in sacks with 4.5. Jamel Major has brought down three interceptions thus far and also sits at the top of the list in pass break-ups totaling six; just behind Keidrick Brewster who leads the team with seven.
The Aggies struggled in the fourth quarter last week, but can overcome the disappointment of their loss to Langston by playing a solid sixty minutes of football this week against OBU. The game is set for Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. and live stats and video coverage will be available through links on the OPSU Aggie Athletics website. Finish strong Aggies!
