Celebrate with PBL! Released by OPSU Campus Communications on 08/07/2014
Goodwell, Okla. — OPSU’s Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) members and sponsors have been taking care of business this year! Help the group celebrate a successful year of competition with a cook-out on Thursday, August 14, in the Bell Tower Plaza located on the OPSU campus.
The celebration will begin at 5 p.m. with hamburgers, chips and cookies and the public is welcome to attend. A recognition ceremony will be held and attendees will have the opportunity to meet current OPSU students as well as 2014 OPSU graduates who participated in the state and national PBL competitions. The event is being hosted by the OPSU Office of the President.
The PBL State Leadership Conference was held on March 28 in Stillwater, Okla. The students competed in a total of 31 events placing in 28 of them. They dominated the competition collecting state championships in 18 events; second place finishes in 10 events; and third place finishes in five events. OPSU’s PBL traveled to the 2014 PBL National Leadership Conference (NLC) held in Nashville, Tenn., June 24-27 and returned to the Panhandle with nine top 10 finishes and the Gold Seal Chapter of Merit. Eva Dye won the national championship in Accounting Principles, and Amanda Barr won first place in the Agribusiness open event.
The PBL members as well as sponsors, Davin Winger and Sara Hitch, can often be seen around the community helping with various events such as the Pioneer Days Rotary Barbecue as well as speaking to different groups about their experiences.
Winger said, “The overwhelming support of OPSU and the surrounding community has been a great blessing. We invite everyone to come and celebrate the success and the hard work of our PBL students."
