Casper, Wyo. — The College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) came to a close Saturday night. The Casper Events Center was full of athletes looking to become national champions.

It is no secret that Oklahoma Panhandle State University has also been referred to as “Saddle Bronc U”. That statement was once again proved correct as Clay Elliott spurred one for 81 points on Saturday night. The ride was more than enough to give Elliott the round win and the national title.

Randi Buchanan also had success in the short round. Buchanan was 2.5 seconds in the breakaway roping. The run was fast enough to give her the round win and make her the reserve national champion. Buchanan made the short round in the barrel racing as well, but she hit the second barrel. Buchanan finished third in the women’s all-around race.

Shade Etbauer made the short round in the saddle bronc riding, but unfortunately he came down early. Joe and Josh Frost both qualified for the short round in the bull riding, however both men failed to make the whistle.

The year ended on a good note for the Panhandle State rodeo team. The men’s team finished the year as the reserve national champions, while the women finished in the top ten. The team will now head into summer and await their return to the panhandle in August.
