Goodwell, Okla.— On Saturday, Sept. 30 the Panhandle State baseball team hosted an Aggie Alumni Homerun Derby. The day was set to take form of a 7-inning scrimmage, but wet weather and soggy field conditions shifted the event into a hitting display at the Aggie Softball field.

Alumni drove from close-to-home in Guymon, to as far away as Austin, Texas to help kick off the new 2017-2018 baseball season and relive some of their former moments on the diamond. Alumni from the classes of 2015 and 2016 took a short batting practice before taking pitches from the baseball coaching staff, as the current players waited in the outfield to receive.

Quite a few balls made it over the fence and out of the field proving that the veterans still had some skills to show off. Recent graduate and four-year Aggie pitcher Felipe Beltran earned bragging rights as the "Big Hitter", knocking out the most homers in the two-round contest with ten.

Following the derby, the Aggie staff treated the group to a delicious post-game meal at Hunny's barbeque in Guymon. The players and coaches exchanged past and present baseball stories over great food to cap off the day's festivities.

Head Coach Jason LaRocque and the Aggie baseball staff hopes to make this an annual event and look forward to a rousing alumni game next year. The Aggies also hope to include an Alumni Banquet and Silent Auction in their lineup this spring, along with a host of home dates for alumni and fans to catch the current team in action.
