Aggie Cross Country Teams Complete Season at Conference Meet

Shawnee, Okla.—The men's and women's Aggie cross country teams ran their final race of the season on Saturday as they competed at the Sooner Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship Meet in Shawnee.

The Aggie women took to the 5K trail at the Gordon Cooper Technology Center with eight other teams. Panhandle State placed seventh as a team with an average time of 23:47.95. Junior Purity Jeplieting turned in the best time for the Aggies, finishing the five-kilometer race in 21:26.07 and placing 30th in a field of 69 runners. Freshman Naomi Rodriguez was close behind clocking a time of 21:42.96 to place 33rd overall. Sarai Ortega (53rd-24:23.59), Danielle Villarreal (60th-25:25.68) and Kiery Fernandez (64th-26:01.41) each finished for the Aggies, seeing improved times throughout the season.

For the men's team sophomore Philip Kirongo led the Aggies with an eight-kilometer time of 27:56.24 to finish 37th among 76 runners. The men's team placed ninth in the nine-team field with brothers Arron Hammett (30:29.32) and Cameron Hammett (33:15.48), finishing 59th and 70th respectively. Junior Firas Ghazouani claimed the 69th spot with a time of 32:58.56 and senior Jacob Morales finished 71st clocking 35:32.42. The Aggie men averaged a team time of 32:02.41.

Oklahoma City University reined victorious with both the men's and women's teams taking first place for the conference titles. OC's Mark Shaw claimed the individual championship for the men with a first place finish time of 24:36.80, and Stars leading lady runner was Aminat Olowora with a winning 5K finish of 16:58.

Sarah Brady Named J.R.P. Sewell Award Winner
