Two Aggies Named CSFL Players of the Week

Released by Panhandle State Sports Information on 11/06/2017

Goodwell, Okla.—Aggie running back Orlando Haymon and linebacker Nathan Leithead earned conference honors for the week's performance at Texas College.

Haymon was named Central States Football League Offensive Player of the week, and Leithead received the Defensive Player of the Week title. Haymon helped the Aggies secure a 34-13 victory over the Steers rushing 11 times for 157 yards and three touchdowns. The junior from Vernon, Texas averaged 14.3 yards per carry; the highest rushing average in a game this season. Haymon currently leads the Aggie offense in rushing with 554 yards and six rushing touchdowns.

Offensive Coordinator Buddy Blevins was proud to see Haymon's hard work pay off on the field, "Orlando runs extremely hard and when you mix that with his ability to make people miss, it makes for an explosive back. It was great to see both of those attributes come to fruition Saturday. He has definitely earned it."

With a career-high of 14 tackles against Texas College, Nathan Leithead was a force to be reckoned with in Saturday's matchup. The sophomore out of Colorado Springs tallied seven solo tackles and seven assists and wrapped up three tackles for loss of ten yards along with a sack. His efforts, along with a well-synced Aggie defense, helped hold their opponent to 269 yards of total offense. Leithead ties as the leading tackler on the team with Dominick Bell, each collecting 60 tackles thus far.

Defensive Coordinator Eric Daniels offered a comment on Leithead's recognition stating, "He is the type of player that is going to give you everything he has, every game."

Solid efforts on both sides of the ball this week edged the Aggies into the third-place slot within the Central States Football League standings. With a 6-3 overall record and a 5-2 CSFL record, Panhandle State sits among strong competition behind the nationally ranked No. 8 Langston and No. 20 Southwestern Assemblies of God.

The complete release by the CSFL is available online at centralstatesfootball.com. Congratulations to Orlando Haymon and Nathan Leithead, and to the entire Aggie football team ad coaching staff on a great win and a true team effort.
