Panhandle State Communications on 08/25/2020

Oklahoma Panhandle State University Athletic Director, Meghan Mulcahy, announced her departure after nine years of service. Mulcahy is stepping down to pursue another career option.

Mulcahy took the helm of the OPSU softball program in 2012. She served as the head softball coach until 2019 when she was promoted as the University’s full-time Athletic Director. This position was instrumental in guiding the program through its transition into the NAIA and Sooner Athletic Conference and led the initiative to add the soccer programs in 2019.

As the director, Mulcahy has also been instrumental in creating partnerships with local school districts, fostering community outreach and civic involvement, and overseeing facility renovations and enhancements to the Anchor D Stadium, Anchor D Arena, and the new Athletics administrative offices.

Under her leadership as athletic director, nine of the Panhandle State teams were recognized with SAC Scholar Team awards, accruing a 3.0 team GPA in conference-sponsored sports. In all, 196 student-athletes have earned a spot on the SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll (3.0 GPA or better) from 2017-2019.

University President, Dr. Tim Faltyn stated, “Mulcahy has led the many successes in the Aggie Athletics. With her leadership, Panhandle State Athletics has grown and become an even more integral part of our plan for continued success.”

He continued, “I wish her the very best. I know she will do well as she branches out and gains experience that will lead her to her ultimate career goal.”

Head Women’s Basketball Coach, Victor Esparza, said, “Meghan has done an amazing job running the athletic department. She has played a huge part in all of our facility upgrades. She has given us the tools to be successful. It has been great working for her, and she has made coming to work everyday fun and enjoyable. I’m so happy for this next step in her career, and I wish her nothing but the best.”

Shawn Joy, Head Baseball Coach, stated, “Aggie Athletics is going in the right direction, and a big part of that is Meghan Mulcahy. She has provided leadership that has helped our programs improve greatly.”

Head Football Coach Bob Majeski said, “Meghan has been absolutely awesome to work with. She was instrumental in me becoming part of the Aggie family. I am sorry to see my friend leave. But, excited about what this move could do for her future. I wish her nothing but the best.”

Mulcahy stated, “Friends are family you get to choose, and over the past nine years, the Panhandle has become both my friend and family. The community and the people are what makes the Panhandle a special place, and while I am excited about my next chapter, I am sad to be leaving it behind.”

“I want to thank President Faltyn and the rest of the administrative staff for their leadership. I would not have been able to accomplish all of the things I have without your trust and encouragement, and I want to extend my sincere thanks for your support and guidance during my time as a member of the Aggie team.”

“I also want to give a special thanks to the athletic department. From the coaches and staff to the student-athletes, each of you has played an important role in building the culture and success of all of the athletic programs. I know that you all will continue working to leave the department better than where you found it, and I will remain one of your biggest fans and supporters. Hail the Aggie crew!”
