**For Immediate Release** OPSU Golfers Compete in Conference Tournament By Scott Puryear OPSU Sports on 04/22/2009 Goodwell, Okla. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State men’s and women’s golf teams competed on Monday and Tuesday in the Heartland Conference Tournaments, played at the Slick Rock Golf Course in Horseshoe Bay, Texas. St. Mary’s University was the host school.
The Aggie golfers finished seventh in a field of eight while the Lady Aggies were fifth in a field of seven.
St. Mary’s won the men’s team title, with St. Edward’s second. St. Edward’s captured the women’s title and St. Mary’s grabbed the runner-up spot. Each team was represented by five student athletes.
The women’s teams played two 18-hole rounds and OPSU’s Marcie Langley’s 172 (90-82) was good for 16th place and Cara Horn’s 189 (95-94) resulted in a tie for 23rd. Other OPSU finishers (and their 36-hole totals) were Alisa Byers (194), Amanda Griggs (209), and Chelsea Vaught (218).
The men’s teams played three 18-hole rounds and OPSU’s Rob Hamilton tied for 17th place at 220 (71-76-73) and Chris Herring’s 224 (72-78-74) resulted in a tie for 22nd. Other Aggie finishers (and their 54-hole totals) were Brant Gear (246), Shane Rice (249), and Robert Adams (252).
