**For Immediate Release** Seven Aggies Honored by D2Football.com By Scott Puryear of OPSU Sports on 12/07/2009 Goodwell, Okla. — Seven Oklahoma Panhandle State players have been honored by D2 Football.com. Four Aggies earned first team All-Independents honors and three more were selected to the second team.
Members of the first team are:
DARRYL BRISTER (5’9, 200-lb. sophomore running back) — Brister thrilled Aggie fans with his exciting running skills this fall. For the season, Brister ran for 1,163 yards and a dozen touchdowns, tacked on another 227 yards receiving with a TD, and crossed the goal line an additional time on a 72-yard punt return.
DOUG WILLIAMS (6’5, 200-lb. junior wide receiver) — In his first year in an OPSU uniform, the sure-handed and fleet-footed Williams showed members of opposing teams the back of his jersey many times on the way to 74 receptions for 1,175 yards and 17 touchdowns.
TIM O’NEIL (6’1, 275 lb. junior offensive lineman) — Also in his first year on the field as an Aggie, O’Neil was the leader of a determined group of offensive lineman who plowed the road for Aggie running backs and provided protection for the OPSU passing game.
WILLIAM TURNBO (6’4, 287 lb. junior defensive lineman) — A mainstay on the Aggie “D Line” his entire college career, Turnbo was a formidable force all season. Though many teams ran away from him, he still had 52 tackles (ten of them for losses) and an interception. A second generation Aggie football star, his father was an outstanding lineman for OPSU in the 1970s.
Three Aggies earned second team honors: BRIAN ARMENDARIZ (6’2, 310 lb. junior offensive lineman), JOSE HUERTA (6’0, 210 lb, junior linebacker), and ANDREW WALKER (6’2, 242 lb. junior defensive lineman).
All seven will be formally honored at a halftime ceremony of an Aggie basketball game in January.
