**For Immediate Release** Bulls Weighed Off-Test; Auction Set for February 22 By Gwen Martin on 02/02/2010 Goodwell, Okla. — The beef bulls on the 58th Annual OPSU Performance Test at Goodwell, Okla. were weighed off test Saturday, January 30, 2010. In preparation for the February 22 Sale, the bulls will be measured for frame score, scrotal circumference and evaluated on semen quality.
The bulls ended up with an average daily gain (ADG) of 4.25 lbs. and a weight-per-day-of-age (WDA) of 3.33 lbs. Seventy of these bulls will sell in the 58th Annual Bull Sale Monday, February 22, 2010 at 1:00 pm CST, Goodwell, Okla. The sale will be held in the England Activity Center, University Farm with Eddie Sims as the auctioneer.
The top gaining bull on test was an Angus senior-age bull consigned by B&M Angus, Edmond, Okla. This bull, a son of Spur Success 2801, gained 6.42 lbs. per day. B&M also had the second place senior with an ADG of 5.58 lbs. on a son of TC Total 410. The third and fourth place senior bulls were consigned by Larry Weinkauf, Orlando, Okla. These bulls had ADGs of 5.44 and 5.41 lbs, respectively, and were sired by Circle S 598 Bando 1037.
In the senior pen division, B&M Angus had the top two pens with ADGs of 5.38 and 5.21 lbs, respectively. Sires represented in these pens were Spur Success 2801, TC Total 410 and Spur USPB 6401. Larry Weinkauf’s pen of four Angus, sired by Circle S 598 Bando 1037, was third with an ADG of 4.62 lbs. The fourth place senior pen with an ADG of 4.57 lbs. was Tim Meier’s pen of three Angus sired by Bar M Focus 5854.
Wink Farms, Panhandle, Texas had the top junior-age bull with an ADG of 5.13 lbs. on an Angus sired by PL PFred 244. Phil Light, Turpin, Okla. had the second and third ranked juniors with ADGs of 5.12 and 4.93 lbs, respectively. These two Angus were sired by Mytty in Focus and Vermilion Nebraska M404, respectively. OPSU’s Test No. 15-1 was fourth with an ADG of 4.92 lbs. This bull’s sire is B&M Right Time 667 who completed the 57th test with an ADG of 5.65 lbs.
Phil Light’s pen of three Angus, sired by Vermilion Nebraska M404, led the junior-age pen division with an ADG of 4.65 lbs. OPSU’s pen of three Angus sired by the B&M Right Time 667 bull was second with an ADG of 4.62 lbs. B&M’s pen of three Angus, sired by Spur Success 2801, was third with an ADG of 4.58 lbs.
OPSU’s pen 15 was the most efficient junior pen in converting feed to gain and B&M’s pen 9 was the most efficient senior pen in converting feed to gain.
