**For Immediate Release** OPSU Women’s Basketball Falls to St. Mary’s By Scott Puryear of OPSU Sports on 02/07/2010 San Antonio, Texas — The Oklahoma Panhandle State women’s basketball team was in San Antonio on Saturday afternoon to face the St. Mary’s Rattlers. The Rattlers topped the Lady Aggies 56-38. Both teams compete in the Heartland Conference.
Neither of the two teams shot particularly well in the opening half and St. Mary’s owned a 27-11 advantage going into halftime.
In the second half, the Lady Aggies shot better from the field, but were unable to make up the first half deficit.
With their 56-38 victory, St. Mary’s upped their season record to 16-6 and their Heartland Conference record to a league-leading 8-2. Kristen Williams of the Rattlers was the game’s leading scorer with 18 points.
Camille Washington was the high scorer for OPSU with nine points while Nefeteria Davis and Cassie Wood each scored six. Davis tied Williams for game rebounding honors with seven boards each. OPSU’s Lauren Cherry pulled down six rebounds.
With the loss, the Lady Aggie league record stands at 3-7 (6-15 overall). They will be back on their home court on Thursday for a game with the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. Tip-off for the Thursday evening contest is set for 5:30.
