**For Immediate Release** OPSU Baseball Splits Sunday Double Header By Scott Puryear of OPSU Sports on 02/08/2010 Laredo, Texas — In Heartland Conference baseball action in Texas on Sunday, the Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggies and the Dustdevils of Texas A&M International split a double header. Each team totaled 18 runs in the two games — the Aggies won the first one 8-6 and the Dustdevils got the second one, 12-10.

Aggies 8, TA&MI 6

In Sunday’s first game, a seven-run eighth inning by the Aggies was the difference in their 8-6 win and the big blow of the inning came on a two-run double by second baseman Jeff Steen.

Though the Aggies left nine men on base during the game, they benefitted by some nifty base running that included five stolen bases. Also, outfielder Amir Daou had a double as part of his two hits in four at-bats.

OPSU pitcher Swenton Martina did a very nice job on the mound and earned the complete game win. For the game, Martina gave up just four hits and only three earned runs while striking out five and walking only two batters.

TA&MI 12, Aggies 10

Sunday’s second game was a wild one, and a nine-run third inning was the difference maker in the Dustdevils’ 12-10 win over the Aggies. In a losing effort, both Andy Klaus and Mike Senter belted homers for OPSU.

OPSU smacked a dozen hits in the contest — four of them by first baseman Senter (including his home run) and three by catcher Curtis Noel.

The Aggies, now 2-5 on the young season will have their home opener on Friday with a three-game stand against the favored team in the Heartland Conference (the University of Texas-Permian Basin). Friday will see a double header between the two teams and the first pitch is set for noon at the OPSU baseball complex.
