-released by OPSU Campus Communications 04-01-05
Oklahoma Panhandle State University senior, Ian McCulloch, has been accepted to one of the most prestigious acting schools in the United State, the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City.Anyone who has attended a play, musical, or concert in Hughes-Strong auditorium during the past four years has probably seen Ian on stage. "One of the things I like about OPSU is that I was able to perform constantly," he said. While he enjoys singing, acting is his passion and that is what he will pursue at the Academy. He has dreamed of becoming an actor since the first time he participated in a speech and debate competition while attending Guymon high school.Ian’s ultimate goal is to be considered a versatile, mainstream actor. While he loves music, he said he feels acting is what he is called to do. He will be a part of an intense and strict program of study at the academy whose graduates include Robert Redford and Danny DeVito. The soon-to-be OPSU graduate looks forward to living in New York with all of the fine arts resources available. With several days worth of activities during Spring Festival of the Arts in April, he will get to feed his passion for the stage. His final OPSU performance will be his senior recital on May 22 to fulfill the Bachelor of Music degree requirements.
"Acting is a way of expressing myself. I like getting to ‘be’ someone else and inviting the audience into my world to relax and enjoy life for a while," said Ian.
