School of Liberal Arts Convocation Held
-released by OPSU Campus Communications 05-13-05
by Sara Jane Richter

The School of Liberal Arts at Oklahoma Panhandle State University held its second annual convocation Thursday afternoon, May 12 in the Hughes-Strong Hall Auditorium. Academic advisers individually recognized graduates receiving a degree, either a bachelor’s degree or an associate of arts, from the School of Liberal Arts. Then, the advisers "corded" each of their advisees with a white cord symbolizing their readiness to participate in the 2005 OPSU commencement exercises on Saturday, May 14. The color white traditionally represents academic fields within the liberal arts: history, sociology, psychology, English, speech, humanities, art, music, foreign language, law enforcement, religion, and political science. In addition to honoring the liberal arts graduates, Mr. Samuel C. Nelson, associate professor of history, was honored for his 35 years of service to OPSU.

Students who elected to participate in the convocation include Tamara Dicke (art) from Guymon, Oklahoma; Shea Meyer (art) from Guymon; Alma Nevarez (Liberal, Kansas); Daniel Alderete, Jr. (English) from San Antonio, Texas; Clinton Kygar (English) from Guymon; Katie Park (English) of Kansas City, Kansas; Bonnie Thompson (English) from Spearman, Texas; Michelle Churchill-Rolf (Social Studies) from Johnstown, Colorado; Michelle McCargish (history) of Holbrook, AZ; Pablo Renteria (humanities) from Gruver, Texas; Anna Mae Stewart (humanities) from Goodwell, Oklahoma; Brigitte Drechsel (Spanish) of Hildebrandsbausen, Germany; Lidia Rodriguez (Spanish) of Sunray, Texas; Seth Boothby (music) from Northridge, California; Ian McCulloch (music) from Guymon; Bertha Watts (psychology) from Spearman; Ryan Forsythe (psychology) of Mesa, Arizona; Imelda Hernandez (psychology) from Cactus, Texas; Donelle Potter (psychology) of Goodwell; Donald Anderson (social studies) of Colstrip, Montana; Cassidy Francis (social studies) from Hobbs, New Mexico; Anastacia Lopez (associate of arts in general studies) from Guymon; Tiffany Sciacca (associate of arts in general studies) of Trinidad, Colorado.
