Goodwell, Okla. — Oklahoma Panhandle State University’s
Adult and Continuing Education department invites all area
citizens to attend a free, informative seminar this Saturday,
July 15. Entitled “Workplace Violence,” it
will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Texas County
Activity Center. The Oklahoma Regional Community Policing
Institute (ORCPI) is providing the seminar to equip citizens
with tools to respond to violence in the workplace.
The course provides employers and law enforcement with
guidelines on the steps they should consider to help reduce
certain workplace violence hazards. The course focuses
on violence committed by non-strangers (e.g., coworkers,
bosses, clients, domestic partners) within a common worksite
(e.g., factory, office, shop, construction site). It also
addresses workplace violence that occurs while employees
are off-site, including robbery, terrorism, and assault.
The course provides 8 hours of Council on Law Enforcement
Education and Training (CLEET) education for police officers.
The free seminar is made possible by sponsors including
Bank of the Panhandle, Main Street Guymon, Farm Credit
of Western Oklahoma, Wal-Mart, Homeland, Guymon Firefighters
Club, Professional Firefighters of Guymon Local 256 and
the Guymon EMS Association. For more information or to
reserve a spot, contact Estela Vedoy at 580-349-1550.
