President Dave Bryant presented a $5,000 check today
on behalf of OPSU to the Plains Chapter of the American
Red Cross to be used to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina. “We wanted to provide
immediate help to those in need, and our Student Senate
has also picked up the challenge. At last night’s
meeting, a motion was passed by our student leaders to
organize and implement additional relief efforts by mobilizing
our student body,” Bryant said.
Lori Sanders, Secretary of the Plains
Chapter, said, “Thank
you on behalf of the American Red Cross. This donation
will pass directly to Hurricane Katrina relief, and will
be put to use immediately.” She went on to say that
10 volunteers from the Oklahoma Panhandle are currently
training to certify for hands-on relief assistance. Two
others have completed training, and the volunteers will
be called to the devastated area to provide assistance
under hardship conditions.
More help is needed. For more information, please contact
the Plains Chapter of the American Red Cross at 580-338-6746.
