-released by OPSU Campus Communications 05/30/06
Goodwell, Okla.- The Oklahoma Panhandle
State University music department will host Broadway
at Panhandle, a music theatre camp for children ages
12-18, June 3-10, and registrations will be accepted
through June 1.
Students participating in the camp
will audition for roles, rehearse, and perform a fully
mounted musical production. This year’s show is Stephen Flaherty’s “Once
on This Island,” a theatrical Caribbean adaptation
of the fairy tale “The Little Mermaid.”
The total cost for the camp is $325, which includes meals,
lodging, instruction, production materials, a camp t-shirt,
and two tickets to the production. Campers stay on the
OPSU campus for the week . Need-based scholarships are
available in some cases. A $75 deposit is required at the
time of registration.
During the camp, middle school and high school students
with an interest in music theatre production and performance
will develop the skills necessary to mount a full-scale
production in a limited amount of time. Campers spend the
day in vocal, dance, acting, or backstage rehearsals to
learn and perform their roles confidently. Students also
have the opportunity to learn about set construction, lighting
design and management, and other technical aspects of a
production.
Broadway at Panhandle is sponsored in part by a generous
donation from the Oklahoma Arts Council. For more information,
