Goodwell, Okla. — Oklahoma Panhandle State University will welcome Brigadier General Terry R. Council of the Oklahoma Army National Guard to campus on Saturday, May 19 for the 2007 Commencement ceremony. General Council will serve as the commencement speaker which begins at 10 a.m. in Oscar Williams Field House.
In 1975, Council graduated cum laude from OPSU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. In addition, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant upon graduation and also earned the honor of Distinguished Military Graduate. He holds a Master of Arts in Procurement and Acquisition Management from Webster University located in St. Louis, Missouri.
Since he graduated high school in a small town, General Council knew he would thrive on a small campus. “All of my teachers knew me by my first name. That wasn’t unusual — every student who wanted help could get it easily.” He credits OPSU with providing him an excellent education.
General Council and his wife Ruth currently reside in Broken Arrow. They have six children, Charles, Michael, Lisa, David, Johnathan and Sarah.
For over 30 years, the highly-decorated General Council has served his country and the state of Oklahoma. OPSU’s faculty, staff and friends look forward to welcoming back an outstanding graduate.
Following the program, President Dave Bryant invites graduates, their guests and OPSU family and friends to the annual barbecue in the plaza. Thanks to Seaboard Foods for providing the meat, the Methodist Men for cooking, and to all OPSU faculty and staff who help serve the meal.
