Goodwell, Okla. -Oklahoma Panhandle State
University maintains a high level of involvement in the communities
within the school’s
service area. Just one of the ways is through the OPSU Community
Service Learning program.
Students in Community Service Learning work for not-for-profit
organizations and experience how such organizations function
on a daily basis as well as make vital contributions to those
organizations.
One participant is Jem Hernandez, a Guymon High School graduate
and current OPSU student majoring in Communications. This semester,
Hernandez is working with the Guymon Chamber of Commerce and
assists the Executive Director, Consuelo Luera, in several
areas.
“Community Service Learning is a great way for the kids
to learn as they do,” Luera said.
Hernandez assists in the management of the day-to-day business
at the Chamber and spends a great deal of her time on both
administrative tasks and committee work.
