Free Tuition Available for High School Seniors
-released by OPSU Campus Communications 08-05-05
by Laura Dahl
Goodwell, OK - Eligible high school seniors attending
Oklahoma high schools may take advantage of free tuition
for up to six hours of credit beginning this fall at Oklahoma
Panhandle State University. Concurrent enrollment offers
students an opportunity to jump start their college careers,
and the tuition waiver provides incentive by lowering the
cost. It was made available July 1, 2005 after Senate
Bill 982 passed, and the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher
Education set the eligibility standards.
Requirements for eligibility include seniors with ACT/SAT
scores in the 50th percentile or those with a high school
grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 and who rank in the
top 50% of the class. The high school senior will be
responsible for the cost of fees and books, which is
approximately $135.17 for 3 credit hours and $270.33
for 6 credit hours.
The free tuition does not apply to high school juniors,
and the admission standards for those students remain
the same. Juniors must have an ACT/SAT score in the 72nd
percentile or a high school GPA of 3.5. They will be
charged full tuition, books, and fees, which is approximately
$362.57 for 3 credit hours and $725.13 for 6 credit hours.
By taking advantage of the tuition waiver, eligible
seniors may save approximately $225 for 3 credit hours,
and over $450 for 6 credit hours. Fall classes begin
Wednesday, August 17. For more information, please contact
Dara Short, Concurrent Enrollment Management, at 800-664-OPSU
