Guymon Classroom Offers Fire Degree

Goodwell, Okla. — OPSU’s Guymon Classroom and the Guymon Fire Department (GFD) partner to offer students a degree in Fire Protection. Upon completion of the academic portion of the degree, students receive an Associates of Applied Science-Technology degree (AAS). Considered a terminal degree, it is vocational in nature and is designed for entry into the workforce. During the 2-1/2 year program, students also intern with GFD, gaining hands-on experience as well as vital skills and knowledge that enhance the trainee’s marketability.
Firefighters must possess leadership, discipline, and the ability to respond quickly and efficiently. In addition to firefighting, they are trained to use specialized equipment and are also schooled in emergency medical procedures and other types of crisis management. The OPSU/GFD intern program boasts over a 95% placement rate for its graduates.
