Goodwell, Okla. - Enrollment continues to increase at OPSU’s Guymon Classroom. Director Consuelo Luera said, “We stay in touch with the business community in the area and with those interested in taking classes for pleasure as well as for college credit. As a result, our course offerings are expanding and more students are enrolling.” This fall, students may still enroll in the eBay class that will be held on October 30 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. A spring class schedule is still being worked out, but prospective classes include Emergency Medical Technician-B; English as a Second Language; Computers for Beginners; a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Preparation course; Welding; MySpace for Parents, a class that examines the function and use of the Internet’s social networking system aimed at children and young adults; some technology-based courses and Beginning Golf.
The Guymon Classroom remains available for businesses to use for presentation or educational purposes. Utilizing the latest technology, anyone who needs to present a program will find it the perfect place to gather a group of individuals for instruction or information. For instance, OPSU’s Upward Bound program makes use of the Guymon Classroom for its tutoring program.
“Inside OPSU” has gotten off to a great start according to Luera. In a partnership between PTCI, KGYN, and OPSU, the hour long, weekly radio/TV program focuses on specific OPSU departments as well as important community events. The show airs live on 1210am KGYN every Tuesday at 3 p.m., and can currently be seen on PTCI’s local cable access channel 2 Monday through Friday at 8 a.m., 11 a.m., 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. In addition, it broadcasts on Tuesday and Thursday at 6 p.m. So far, “Inside OPSU” has covered the Nursing and Fire Protection programs plus Alfalfa Bill stopped by for a visit celebrating Oklahoma’s Centennial.
