-released by OPSU Campus Communications 09-19-07
Goodwell, Okla. - Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated every year from September 15 through October 15 and festivities kicked off in Guymon last Sunday with the FIESTA celebration. OPSU President Dave Bryant presented the FIESTA Queen, Anaid Jesseline Gurrero with a one year scholarship that covers tuition for a total of 15 hours per semester.
The month-long events honor the contribution Hispanic Americans continue to make to the culture in the United States. This year’s campus festivities kick off this week with “Sidewalk Trivia.” Every day, five new trivia questions about Hispanic culture will be written in chalk on the sidewalks of the Plaza area. The first five students who email correct answers to Teri Mora, OPSU’s Hispanic Student Services Director, will win a prize. Students will also be encouraged to sing Spanish language karaoke and participate in Latin Dance Contests that will be held throughout the month.
