Students Gain Experience at Livestock Judging Camp
-released by OPSU Campus Communications 07/06/06
Goodwell, Okla. — Nineteen high school and junior
high school students representing four states recently
gathered at Oklahoma Panhandle State University to hone
their skills at a livestock judging camp. Co-hosted by
OPSU’s Animal Science Department and Seward County
Community College’s Agriculture Department, the young
adults gained experience in all aspects of livestock judging,
from identifying desirable traits in each type of animal
to justifying their choices through oral reasons.
The camp was developed and operated
by the livestock judging coaches from the two schools,
OPSU’s Aaron Preator
and Seward County’s Ryan Orrick plus Evan Winchester,
an ag instructor at SCCC as well as collegiate livestock
judging team members. The two overall winners in the final
competition were Emily Horvath in the Senior Division and
Rhett Linc in the Junior Division.
Following is a list of students participating in the camp.
