English Student Garners Award

Goodwell, Okla. — On April 11, Mitchell David Locke received the Geraldine Burns Award for Outstanding English Major at OPSU. The Oklahoma Council of Teachers of English (OCTE) awards an outstanding English major from each university in the state. Oklahoma City University hosted the annual ceremony. The award honors a respected and award-winning teacher, Geraldine Burns, who taught English at Fairview, Oklahoma, for many years and helped establish the OCTE.
Mitchell is the son of David and Diana Locke of Miami, Texas, and will graduate this spring. He has been accepted to pursue his Masters degree in English at Kansas State University and was recently recognized as the Outstanding English Student at OPSU during the Honors’ Reception on April 19.
Mitchell is the president of the 2007 OPSU Senior Class, was the stage manager for the recent campus production of Rumors, had a role in the play as well, serves as the office assistant to the Dean of the School of Liberal Arts, and plans a post-graduation tour of Europe this summer.
