Goodwell, Okla. -- It’s National Library Week, a time to celebrate the contributions of libraries, librarians and library workers in campuses, schools, and communities nationwide – and the perfect time to discover how you can join the circle of knowledge @ your library.
Marvin E. McKee Library at Oklahoma Panhandle State University is celebrating National Library Week by observing “Fine Forgiveness” days on April 13-18th. Fines will be forgiven for overdue materials returned April 13 – 18th.
Displays during National Library Week include many materials on the sport of rodeo. New books have been purchased this year to provide more information on this popular panhandle activity. Come and view this expanded collection so important to OPSU and the region.
If you have a craving for jelly beans, we will be giving away a large jar of them to whoever guesses the closest to the total number. Use your knowledge to figure out the number. The winner will be selected Friday, April 18th.
Everyone is welcome to enter the library “circle of knowledge” on our new front steps. The circa 1952 tile steps were replaced with safer, more stable concrete tiers. Cake will be served Wednesday, April 16th at 2 p.m. Come and have refreshments, look at the rodeo display, guess the number of jelly beans, and return those overdue materials.
“Every day, libraries in universities help transform their academic community,” says C. Evlyn Schmidt, Library Director. “At our library, students, faculty, staff and area residents come together for class instruction, to do research with the assistance of a trained librarian, and to study in groups or individually. Many resources are available 24/7 electronically. We still provide a relaxing environment for use of popular materials while keeping up-to-date with 35,000 electronic books, DVDs, and spoken word books on CD. The circle of knowledge @ your library keeps growing.”
