Goodwell - On Saturday, December 15, seven graduates were honored on the Oklahoma Panhandle State University campus for completing the requirements for their Associates in Applied Science in Nursing. The program is offered through Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City on the OPSU campus, and OSU-OKC also participated in the ceremony via interactive television. The students completed their coursework on the OPSU campus and their clinical work in the local area. Finishing the degree means the graduates are eligible to take the examination to receive registered nursing licensure. Of last year’s graduates, 85% passed the test on the first attempt compared to the national average of approximately 15% first time test takers. In addition, the newly pinned nurses have the option of continuing their education and completing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at OPSU.

Since its inception in 1996, a total of 76 graduates have completed the OPSU/OSU-OKC partnership program.

Most of the nurse graduates from OPSU remain in the local area and help fill the tremendous professional staffing needs facing rural health care. OPSU is proud to be a part of this important program and offers congratulations to all of the graduates for completing this significant milestone.
