Goodwell, OK - Oklahoma Panhandle State University
participates in partnerships with many public and private sector
organizations. School president Dr. Dave Bryant is especially
excited about the newest one with the United States Army.
The program is called ConAP (Concurrent
Admissions Program) and is designed to link new soldiers
to the time of enlistment. According to the information supplied
by the army, “The
goal is for soldiers to transition directly from the army to
their ConAp college.” The program provides immediate
benefits for current members of the military, for those recently
discharged, for those preparing to enter the military, and
for reservists.
With the partnership with ConAP, Oklahoma Panhandle State
has become a part of Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC).
With this involvement, OPSU is a member of a large scale cooperative
effort that includes 15 national higher education associations,
many other colleges and universities, the Department of Defense,
the Military Services, the National Guard and the Coast Guard.
Participating schools like OPSU may award appropriate credit
for military training and consider credit for occupational
experience.
Dr. Bryant has been working with Staff Sergeant Grover Taylor
of the Liberal, Kansas Army Recruiting office and Steven Brown,
Education Services Specialist from the Kansas City Recruiting
Battalion.
OPSU’s Charles Mark is the field recruiter, and Dr.
Wayne Manning is the school’s on-campus contact. Those
interested in ConAP can contact Dr. Manning at 580-349-2611.
