Goodwell, Okla. - The Oklahoma Panhandle State University Rodeo Team has set their annual Top Hand Auction for Saturday, February 3 at 7 p.m. Held in the Pickle Creek Center located at 822 N.E. Sixth in Guymon, Kim Peterson and Hunny’s will once again provide a barbecue meal for attendees.
The auction begins with rodeo team members on the block donating four hours of work each for the winning bidder. These industrious young men and women are great laborers who are willing to build fence, clean stalls, pick up rocks or any of those other tedious chores. In addition, the team members have started collecting donated items for the auction. So far, several pieces of fine western art, handmade spurs, tack, and horseshoe sculptures will be featured.
Funds raised at the auction benefit the rodeo team through scholarships, travel expenses, and costs associated with maintaining practice stock as well as the Doc Gardner Memorial Arena located adjacent to the OPSU farm.
The men’s team currently sits in first place in the Central Plains Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association standings and tops the team in the number two spot by over 870 points. The women are currently second place, and hope to slip into the number one spot when the spring rodeo season gets under way. The first rodeo is scheduled at Kansas State University in Manhattan February 23-25.

Others on short list include Seth Schafer, third; Ryan Bestol, sixth; Mike Murphy, eight; Will Payne, ninth; and Shank Stephens, eleventh. Trell Etbauer is in first place for men’s all-around, holding down the number two spot in tie down roping and steer wrestling and number five in saddle bronc.
