Goodwell, OK – Pat Rendon and Wes Reeves, representing the Xcel Energy Foundation, recently visited Oklahoma Panhandle State University and presented school president Dr. Dave Bryant with $5,000 in order to assist the school’s project in “Community Service Learning.”

The project places OPSU students in the field working with and helping area nonprofit agencies. The students receive college credit for their efforts, plus learn the infrastructure of the agencies while at the same time performing duties to help those agencies as well as the communities they serve.

Formed in 2001, the Xcel Energy Foundation oversees the charitable activities of Xcel Energy, as well as the organization’s subsidiaries. The grant awards are focused on the areas of Community Development, Education, Arts and Culture, and Environment.

“Xcel Energy wants to play a role in shaping our future workforce because this issue is so critical to the economic and social progress in our area,” said Gary Gibson, Xcel Energy state vice president in Amarillo, Texas. “We also want to reward local groups whose innovations and hard work are making our communities better places to live.”

Oklahoma Panhandle State University is committed to the communities in its service area and “Community Service Leaning” is just one of the several programs and projects in which the school continues to participate.
