by Aggie Sports on 05/31/05
Goodwell, OK – Curt Connor, men’s basketball coach at Oklahoma Panhandle State University, has announced that Kyle Smith (guard) has committed to join the Aggie team.
Standing 5’7" and possessing extreme quickness, Smith brings excellent skills to an already good team in Goodwell.
Last season at Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kansas, Smith started 31 games and averaged 8.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.2 steals.
Smith was also the Saints’ top free throw shooter this past season, hitting 80 charity shots in 96 attempts (.833). A Wichita, Kansas native, Smith prepped at Wichita Heights High School.
Connor said, “Kyle is going to be an impact player for us next season. The Jayhawk Conference is the finest junior college conference in the country, and it’s great for our program to sign one of the top guards from that league.”
Last season the Aggies finished third in the tough Heartland Conference, and though losing two players to graduation (Jecorey Leggins and Ramon McDaniel), Connor will have a solid group of newcomers as well as some outstanding returning players, including all-conference performers Nick Malinowski and Eddie Moss.
