Aggies Fall Twice to Fort Hays State

Okla. - The Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggies
struggled in the 40-degree weather in their season home opener
against Fort Hays State on Monday. The Tigers topped the
Aggies in both games of the doubleheader.
Fort Hays 7, OPSU 0
In the first game, the Aggies hit the ball well but stranded
six runners on base. Aggies senior center fielder JeCorey
Matthews, the leading hitter in the Heartland Conference
with a .478 batting average, had two hits in three tries.
Catcher Wes Wise also went two for three, and first baseman
Dave Pierson, who is batting .300 for the season, went one
for three. Shortstop Brock Hixenbaugh also had one hit in
three at bats as well.
Fort Hays 14, OPSU 4
The Aggies held the Tigers to a slim 5-4 lead through six
innings in the second game. OPSU pitcher Chance Greenwood
gave Fort Hays some heat from the mound despite the cold
weather, but Fort Hays erupted for nine runs in the top of
the seventh. With the win, the Tigers are 10-3 on the season.
Brian Dlugosch and Aaron Tecumseh each had two hits for
the Aggies as well as two runs batted in.
Hixenbaugh, Wise and third baseman Chris Barnes each hit
singles in three at bats and Pierson doubled.
OPSU seeks their first win of the season after losing the
first nine games. Up next for the Aggies are a pair of doubleheaders
at home on Saturday and Sunday against the Augustana Vikings
from Sioux Falls, S.D. Opening pitch is at noon on both days
at the baseball complex on the OPSU campus.
