OPSU Baseball Drops Four Games

Okla.- Augustana College of Sioux Falls, S.
D., visited the Oklahoma Panhandle State baseball complex
last weekend for a pair of doubleheaders and picked up
four wins.
Augustana 12, OPSU 4
Augustana held the Aggies to four
hits in the first game on Saturday, but one of them was
a three-run homer by senior third baseman Chris Barnes.
The Denver, Colo. native’s
blast also plated Dave Pierson (SR; Houston, Texas) and
Aaron Tecumseh (SR; Okmulgee, Okla.).
For the game, both Pierson and Barnes
were one for three at the plate, as were JeCorey Matthews
(SR; Oklahoma City) and K.D. Bressler (SO; Guymon, Okla.).
Pierson’s
hit was a double, and Fred Crapse (SO; Owasso, Okla.) knocked
in a run.

In Saturday’s second game,
the Aggie bats came alive, but they could manage only
a pair of runs.
Shortstop Brock Hixenbaugh (JR; Laramie, Wyo.) had a pair
of hits in four tries, knocked in a run and scored another.
Catcher Rojer Johnson (SO; Okmulgee, Okla.) was 2-4 at
the plate, and Crapse and Barnes also had hits. Pierson
had a double in a pair of plate appearances.

In Sunday’s first game, OPSU
pitcher Ricky Reagan (SR; Houston, Texas) had a no hitter
through four innings, but Augustana finished fast to
defeat the Aggies 7-1.
Crapes and Tecumseh managed the only two Aggie hits.

In the final contest of the four game set, Augustana broke
a 4-4 deadlock in the seventh inning for their 7-4 victory.
Second baseman Wes Wise (SR; Levelland, Texas) had a double,
and Pierson had a single that drove in two runs. Other
Aggie hits were by Bressler, Hixenbaugh, Johnson and Matthews,
who scored twice.
The 6’4" freshman Casey Pickard(Sentinel,
Okla.) scattered eight hits over 5-plus innings for OPSU.
Though the Aggies are 0-13 on the
season, they are continuing to improve and will go for
their first win on Thursday in San Antonio against St.
Mary’s. The two teams
are set for doubleheaders on Thursday and Friday.
Both Matthews and Pierson are showing well in the overall
Heartland Conference statistics with batting averages of
.385 and .294 respectively. Matthews has an on-base percentage
of .500, and Pierson is showing .400 in the same category.
