Aggies Fall to Incarnate Word Over the Weekend

Goodwell, OK - The OPSU baseball team traveled to San Antonio, Texas late last week with to face the Heartland Conference’s top-ranked team – The University of the Incarnate Word. The teams played doubleheaders on both Thursday and Friday, and Incarnate Word picked up a four-game sweep.

Incarnate Word 8, AGGIES 6

In the first of two games played on Thursday, the Aggies scored four runs in the sixth inning and another two in the eighth but fell two runs short in the end, 8-6. OPSU had the go-ahead run at the plate when they made the last out in the final inning.

Chris Barnes (SR; Denver, CO) had the big blow for the Aggies with a three-run homer in the fifth.

OPSU’s Rickey Reagan (SR; Houston, TX) pitched five strong innings, scattering five hits.

At the plate, Ryan Dlugosh (SO; Yorktown, TX) had a hit and scored twice, and Corey Matthews (SR; Oklahoma City) went one for three and scored a run. First baseman Dave Pierson (SR: Houston, TX) went one for three and had an RBI double.

Designated hitter Fred Crapse (SO; Owasso, TX) had two hits in four tries and knocked in three runs.

Incarnate Word 20, AGGIES 8

Incarnate Word benefited from ten unearned runs in the second game on Thursday.

At the plate, Pierson had two his in four tries, and Aaron Tecumseh (SR; Okmulgee, OK) hit a solo homer.

Incarnate Word 4, AGGIES 2

In the first game of Friday’s twin bill, the Aggies played well against an excellent team. Dlugosh gave up three runs in a complete game pitching effort.

Barnes had a pair of hits in two at bats and drove in a run. Matthews plated the other OPSU run.

K.D. Bressler (SO; Guymon, OK), Brock Hixenbaugh (JR; Laramie, WY), Matthews, Crapse, and Pierson all had hits for the Aggies, and Crapse’s hit was a double.

Incarnate Word 11, AGGIES 2

In Friday’s second game, Crapse and Matthews smacked doubles for OPSU, the one from Crapse scoring a run.

Pierson went one for three with an RBI, and Tecumseh also had a hit for the Aggies.

The Aggies will be back in Goodwell this weekend for a pair of doubleheaders with Heartland Conference rival St. Mary’s. The games will begin at noon on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday.
