Aggie Baseball Gets Big Win Over MSU-Billings
by Aggie Sports on 03-27-06
Goodwell, Okla.- Oklahoma Panhandle State baseball fans
saw college baseball at its best on Saturday afternoon.
Although the Aggies trailed Montana State University-Billings
early in the game, they fought back, and the score was
tied 3-3 after the regulation seven innings.
Neither squad could plate a run in the eighth inning,
and MSU-B again went scoreless in the top of the ninth.
In the bottom of the ninth, OPSU threatened early, but
an excellent MSU-B double play retired two runners and
left one Aggie on base.
Senior first baseman Dave Pierson
stepped to the plate for the Aggies, sporting a .330
batting average and one of the best clutch hitters in
the Heartland Conference. The 6’1” left-hander
promptly hammered a fastball over the right field fence
for a two-run walk off homer.
OPSU outfielder Aaron Tecumseh hit
a two-run double, and the other Aggie run came home on
a single by Corey Mathews, who entered the game as the
hitter with an average of .393.
Though he did not get the decision, Aggie pitcher Ricky
Reagan did a nice job on the mound. The senior from Houston
struck out 11 batters over eight innings.
