Aggie Baseball Goes 1-3 at League Leading UIW

Goodwell, Okla. - The Oklahoma Panhandle State baseball team was in San Antonio over the weekend to face the first place team in the Heartland Conference – the University of the Incarnate Word. The Aggies picked up one win in the three game series.
OPSU 8, Incarnate Word 7
In Friday’s first game, the Aggies jumped on UIW for seven runs in the top of the very first inning on their way to an 8-7 victory.
Mike Roche, Luke Korum, Fabian Oechsle and K.D. Bressler each had two hits in the game for the Aggies. Andres Belandria drove in a pair of OPSU runs and other Aggie RBI’s came from Korum, Oechsle, Bressler, Chad Thies and Garrett Meek. Kyle Cremers was the winning pitcher, scattering nine hits over six innings, while raising his season record to 5-8.
Incarnate Word 8, OPSU 2
In Friday’s second game, UIW picked up an 8-2 win. OPSU’s Roche had three hits, including a pair of doubles. James Fisher also had two hits for OPSU and the Aggies’ only earned run was driven in by Thies.
Incarnate Word 14, OPSU 4
In Saturday’s only game, UIW jumped out to a 10-2 lead after three innings and held on for the 14-4 win. Matthew O’Neill and Korum each drove in a pair of runs and Roche had three hits in four trips to the plate.
Roche, OPSU’s excellent center fielder, had eight hits in 13 at bats in the three game set.
UIW sits atop the Heartland Conference standings with an overall record of 33-11, while OPSU now stands at 12-34.
The Aggies will have their final home stand of the season on Friday and Saturday against St. Edward’s. Double headers are scheduled on both days with starts scheduled for noon.
