Goodwell , Okla. - The Oklahoma Panhandle State men's basketball team made the trip to Odessa determined to get a victory over the University of Texas-Permian Basin on Thursday. Though they led for the vast majority of the game, including 32-27 at the half, the Aggies could not quite pull it off against a scrappy opponent and UT-PB gained an exciting 66-62 win.
Both teams raged at each other for the entire second half, and the lead changed hands in favor of UT-PB, but the Aggies grabbed it back at 61-59 with 2:10 left in the game. However, UT-PB came back just seconds later to go ahead 62-61.
With 1:30 left, OPSU's Will Stephenson's free throw tied the game at 62 each, and each team was fighting hard for victory in front of a loud crowd.
As time wound down, UT-PB seized a four point lead and maintained it for the 66-62 victory.
OPSU's Stephenson was dominant at both ends of the court. Last week's Heartland Conference Player of the Week drilled in 11 of his 17 shots and tallied 26 while snaring nine rebounds.
Aggie guard E. J. Ollison was good for 14 points and five rebounds while Luke Ogden netted 12 points and nabbed six rebounds.
The Aggies, now 5-12, will be in Dallas on Saturday to tangle with Heartland Conference rival Dallas Baptist.
