Goodwell, Okla. -- A pair of Oklahoma Panhandle State basketball players are being prominently mentioned around the Heartland Conference this week.

For the Lady Aggies, 6’1 junior Jasmine Williams has been named the league’s Player of the Week for her performance over the last three games.

Williams has become a dominant player in the paint. In the three Lady Aggie games last week, Williams averaged a “Double-Double” (18.3 points per game and 13.0 rebounds). Her highest scoring game was 28 against UT-PB and she tied a conference season high with 17 rebounds in the same game.

Williams is in her first year as a Lady Aggie and hails from Phoenix, Arizona.

For the OPSU men, senior forward Will Stephenson leads the conference in no less than three statistical categories. The 6’6 leaper from Chicago is first in scoring average (20.9), rebounding average (9.1), and blocked shots (1.81 per game).

The most current NCAA (Division II) statistics show Stephenson as one of the top 16 players in the country in scoring average.

Thanks to Stephenson’s hot hand, along with the rest of the Aggies, OPSU leads the Heartland Conference in team scoring average with 81.7 points per game.

Both the OPSU men’s and women’s teams will be in Texas later this week for more big Heartland Conference games. On Thursday in Austin, each team will play their rivals from St. Edward’s. On Saturday night, San Antonio will be the place, and each team will go against the squads from St. Mary’s.
