- by Scott Puryear of OPSU Sports on 02/06/2007
Goodwell, Okla. - Two Oklahoma Panhandle State basketball players will travel to Texas as Heartland Conference men’s and women’s Players of the Week. The hard working Megan Hamilton earned the honor on the women’s side, while the splendid LaChawn Anderson was recognized for men’s basketball.
In the Lady Aggies’ only game last week – an 88-76 win over UT-Permian Basin - Hamilton was all over the court. The 5’5 guard scored 24 points (all on long range three point shots) and added six assists, a block and a pair of steals. Her eight threes in the game are a Heartland season high. With her dedicated work ethic, the junior has been an inspiration to her team all year.
This season, Hamilton leads the Lady Aggies in scoring; three-point shots made; free throw percentage; assists; and minutes played. She is from Harrah, Oklahoma.
The OPSU men split two games last week, and in the win over UT-Permian Basin, Anderson was tremendous, nailing conference season highs in points (38) and field goals made (16). A tough player on offense and defense, the 6’4” junior’s averages for last week’s games included 29.5 points and 6.5 rebounds.
For the season, Anderson leads his team in both scoring and steals. He is from Chicago.
The Lady Aggies and the Aggies will be in action in Texas on both Thursday and Saturday. On Thursday evening in Laredo, the women’s team will play Texas A&M International with a tip-off scheduled for 5:30 and the men will take over for a 7:30 scheduled start.
On Saturday night in Austin, the OPSU teams will go against the men’s and women’s squads from St. Edward’s University. The action begins with the women’s game at 6:00 p.m. and the men’s teams are scheduled to go at 8:00.
